The highlight of I/ITSEC 2005 was the unveiling of Atlantis Systems International's newest training product, the Helicopter Vocational Trainer (HVT). Easily transportable and fully operational at the show, HVT introduced attendees to the world of fully synthetic, vertical flight training. To accomplish this, Atlantis has integrated dual-channel image generators and the NVIS nVisor SX HMD, with advanced audio and integrated boom microphone, into their state-of-the-art helicopter flight training simulator, which is currently reconfigurable between the Westland EH-101, a three-engine helicopter for medium transport, and the Bell 206. This revolutionary virtual and reconfigurable system allows training to be addressed for any legacy helicopter and new aircraft requiring vertical flight. Applications can vary from helicopters to the V-22, and can also address evolving requirements for the Joint Strike Fighter. Innovative features of the new HVT include: ? Multiple configurations offering training for a wide variety of missions, including deck landings, search and rescue, urban warfare, air ambulance and special operations. ? Easily reconfigurable flight controls, aero simulations, and virtual in-cockpit visuals to support training for a growing range of aircraft types. ? An affordable, easily transportable platform for on-site training in dangerous, challenging and complex environments. As a key component of the HVT system, the nVisor SX accurately displays to the trainee pilot a virtual recreation of the helicopter cockpit environment and out-the-window view, reproduced by the image generators in stereoscopic format. These full-colour 1280x1024 resolution images are composed from multiple sources of data at runtime, including elevation, classification, vectors and satellite imagery to produce a continuous cockpit and worldwide visual environment.
